STORM LAKE, Iowa (KTIV) -
A Storm Lake, Iowa man is facing charges after police say he caused his pregnant girlfriend to have a miscarriage.
The Storm Lake Police Department says they were contacted last night by a woman who said 31-year-old Yoirlan Tome-Rojas secretly inserted a chemical into her that caused the termination of her pregnancy. She says it happened on two occasions; one in December of last year.
The victim told police she became suspicious after intercepting an email message in which Rojas was contacting someone in Florida about which drug could cause a miscarriage.
Police searched Rojas' apartment and seized a computer, medications, and "chat logs" allegedly containing conversations Rojas had with a person in Florida.
Rojas is being held in the Buena Vista County Jail on charges of Conspiracy to Commit Non-Consensual Termination of an Unborn Child and Sexual Assault.
