SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa (KTIV/KUOO) -
Organizers of a joint meeting of two lakes area cleanwater organizations to be held later this month are hoping to address several topics of importance to the Iowa Great Lakes. For the first time ever, the Cleanwater Alliance and the Dickinson County Water Quality Commission will meet in a joint session Tuesday, Jan. 31 in Milford.
Among the items on the agenda are updates on grants, a proposed fish barrier to keep asian carp out of the Iowa Great Lakes and a watershed management plan for Silver Lake near Lake Park.
On another note, organizers of this year's Winter Games say as of right now no changes are being made on the location of any of the events. Thanks to recent subzero temperatures, ice is now said to be more than a foot thick on portions of Smith's Bay, where most of the events will be held.
