Siouxland Freedom Park gets big gift

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KTIV) -

The Siouxland Freedom Park received a key donation, which keeps the project on track to be completed in two years.

Mark Corbin, co-owner of Morningside Plumbing, plans to donate not only his time, but all of the plumbing materials needed for the entire project.

Organizers say the gift is worth more than $15,000. When built on this land near the river in South Sioux City, Nebraska, the Siouxland Freedom Park will honor veterans with scaled models of the war monuments in Washington, D.C.

Corbin hopes his donation is just the first of many services that are needed to complete the project.

"I would challenge other contractors to step forward and take on entire parts of the project or at least some of the project," said Corbin.

The project price tag is about $3 million. So far, organizers have raised more than $1 million. There have not only been large donations from community leaders and businesses, but schools have also pitched in.

"It's all their pennies and dimes and nickels--collections--really those are more important than the big ones. Not to take away from the big ones, but those are kids out working to help the veterans to bring the park to fruition," said Dan McNamara, Siouxland Freedom Park chairman.

Besides monuments, the Siouxland Freedom Park will include walking paths and a dog park.
