DECATUR, Neb. (KTIV) -
Work continues to repair the land along the Iowa side of the Decatur Bridge near Decatur, Nebraska.
Iowa D.O.T. officials say they are on schedule for reinforcing the land that was scoured away when the Missouri River went out of it's banks last summer.
The bridge re-opened last November and since the contractor is working so fast, they were awarded an extra million dollars, bringing the reconstruction up to $4.7 million.
Officials are in the second phase of the project.
"The work involves wing dikes and placing more revetment and that work should be completed by the middle of March," said Dean Herbst, Resident Construction Engineer.
So far, they've placed 55,000 tons of rip wrap and 125,000 cubic yards of hydraulic fill.
They plan on adding another 24,000 tons of rip wrap by the time they finish in March.
