SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KTIV) -
South Sioux City, Nebraska is moving forward with plans to build their own wastewater treatment plant to serve the community's industries. The city plans to break ground on the $10 million project this summer.
The plant will be built on this land near the Tyson wastewater plant, between South Sioux and Dakota City. The city sends 1.2 million gallons of industrial waste to the Sioux City plant.
The new plant will be capable of 2.3million and can be doubled if necessary.
Sioux City officials say additions to their own plant proved during the flood that it could handle additional capacity needs.
But, City Administrator Lance Hedquist says by building their own plant, South Sioux City will ensure they have the infrastructure in place to handle future industrial growth.
