Anderson talks taxes during town hall visit

PIERSON, Iowa (KTIV) -

Iowa Senator Bill Anderson is making his way across the 27th district of Iowa for a series of town hall meetings.

He says many of the issues on his mind are also on the hearts of the voters.  While there are many issues that Anderson would like to tackle this year, he says he's already seeing progress on one key concept: property taxes.

He points out that it's a great sign that proposals are on the table, and both the governor and state legislators are talking daily.

"All parties have been at the table," said Anderson. "There have been, as you said, signs of progress, so I'm optimistic. I'm more optimistic than I was before the first of the year and you know, we'll keep you posted, obviously as we progress."

Anderson says there's still work to be done on education reform and road readiness, but he's optimistic that something will get done.  Anderson held town meetings in Pierson today, as well as Remsen, Kingsley and Moville.

Despite the relatively small size of the crowds, one constituent explained why he wanted to join the discussion.

"It's always disappointing that more people don't come out to hear what's happening down there and when something happens that they don't like, then they complain about it. But they weren't there to express their opinion," said Jack Burright of Pierson, Iowa.

Anderson added that the meetings allowed for excellent dialogue with voters.  There are more town halls coming next week. Sessions are scheduled for Aurelia and Cherokee on Friday.
