Spencer "Heritage Center" getting close to complete

SPENCER, Iowa (KTIV) -

Clay County will be getting a new heritage in coming months...a new heritage center that is.

It'll be on the corner of Grand Avenue and Park Street, a new home for some of the Parker Historical Society's exhibits.

Called the Clay County Heritage Center, it will have some new gallery space, a paper research library and climate control for some of the society's more delicate items. One of the biggest features, a display of the Spencer fire of 1931.

"We're right on Grand Avenue, that's where the fire happened. We're kind of an interpretive center for that unique event in our community," said Cindy McGranahan, director of the Parker Historical Society.

The building is scheduled to open this summer.
