SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - -

As a four-time state champion at Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School, Megan Glisar is used to winning. But the University of Iowa transfer wasn't sure what to expect in her first meet last Saturday for Morningside.

"That day I would have been happy with 5'4". That was my first time jumping in spikes in two years so I would have been thrilled with anything," said Glisar. "It was just a really good day. It was just fun. It was fun to jump and it was nice getting back into it."

The 5'7" Glisar jumped 5'9.25" to not only win the Dordt College Invitational but break the Morningside school record of 5'5" by over four inches.

"I was just as surprised as everybody else," admitted Glisar. "Coming back into it I had no idea how I was going to do. I didn't know if it was going to be a good meet or a bad meet or if I was going to question my decision of going out again or what."

"Shattering a record like that, we thought maybe an inch, maybe two inches but to have her have that kind of jump in her first meet in a Mustang uniform was just icing on the cake," said Morningside Head Coach Dave Nash. "It was just incredible."

Glisar was named the NAIA National Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week. Her jump is the top NAIA performance in the nation this season. She could become Morningside's first NAIA national champion in track and field.

"Everybody across the nation is saying, 'who is this girl that just jumped 1.76 meters from Morningside'? It really put Morningside on the map, too," said Nash.

"I don't think people were expecting much out of me last Saturday," said Glisar. "That was kind of fun, to just go out there. I'd rather fly under the radar though, so now I'm kind of out there."

Aside from her win in the high jump, Glisar also helped Morningside to a second place finish in the 1600-meter relay and placed fifth in the 200-meter dash.
