Blencoe likely to get loan to balance budget
The city of Blencoe, Iowa will take out a $65,000 loan to take care of a budget problem. Because of a bookkeeping mistake, the city cannot collect property taxes from Blencoe residents this year. Mayor Brad Tank says taking a loan was favored over taking money from other city funds. The loan will be repaid with a debt service levy that will mean an increase in property taxes for the next five years.
Sioux City hopes for job creation with downtown study
Sioux City is making an effort to revamp downtown and hopefully bring in more jobs. The International Economic Development Council is partnering with the city to conduct an economic renewal study. They'll look at revitalizing historic downtown buildings and look at potential uses for vacant spaces. The study is receiving $80,000 in funding, half of which is federal.
Sioux City Public Museum receives endowment challenge grant
The Sioux City Public Museum is getting a $20,000 endowment challenge grant. The Iowa Cultural Trust provided the grant as seed money to promote private giving. The grants are designed to help organizations achieve long-term financial sustainability through endowment building. The Museum met the requirements of the challenge grant by raising $60,000 in endowment funds in less than the two years specified by the grant.
