Numbers were down at the University of Okoboji Winter Games and officials are blaming a lack of snowmobile riders.
Last year the Iowa Great Lakes had about 40,000 people, this year, about 30,000.
Leading up to the games sunny skies and high temps wore through the lakes' typically tough ice. It became thin and unsafe for some events, like the snowmobile races, which had to be canceled.
With less of those winter riders, numbers suffered, but officials say they're still happy with results.
"You know with the nicer temperatures, sunshine, lack of wind, we really did see a lot of participants out and about," said Jen Johnson with the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce.
This was the 32nd year for the event.
