Some cyclists kick off RAGBRAI in their backyard

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa (KTIV) -

While hundreds prepare to find a place to stay during the first night of the ride, a select few will be sleeping in their own beds.

Cyclists living in Sioux Center say they're excited to have the event kick off in their own backyard.

While it's a great chance to show outsiders what their town is like, some say RAGBRAI is their way to go on a mini-vacation.

"What I look at it is it's a week away from everything. You don't pay attention to what day of the week it is or what time it is," said Denny Ruden, rider with Fungus Amongus.

Riders will also stop in Cherokee and Lake View before ending their trek July 28th in Clinton, Iowa.
