UPDATE: Victims identified after vehicle rolls into pond near Smithland, IA

Authorities have released the names of two people who died in an overnight accident near Smithland, Iowa.

The Iowa State Patrol says the wreck was discovered Wednesday morning along old Highway 141 about two miles west of Smithland. Officials believe it happened sometime in the early morning hours.

Authorities say Jamie Anderson, 36, of Sioux City was driving his red Ford F 150 pick up north on Old Highway 141 when he lost control of the vehicle.

"Looks like they left the roadway here about 300 feet before the curve, rolled and then ended up in the pond," said Trooper John Farley of the Iowa State Patrol.

Authorities say Anderson was thrown from the vehicle. A passenger in the vehicle, Jestaine Olsen,  25, of Sioux City was found pinned inside.

Both were pronounced dead on the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
