PIERRE, S.D. (KTIV) -
The topic of teens working on the farm comes up again Thursday on Capitol Hill.
South Dakota Sen. John Thune says the House of Representatives has scheduled a hearing to go over more than 4,000 comments submitted into the pending Labor Department regulations for children under age 16 working on farms.
The Republican says the regulations are to specific and just "crazy."
"This is an example of the excessive, over reach of regulations that make it more expensive, more difficult, and more costly to do business in this country, in particular for farmers and ranchers," said Sen. John Thune, (R) South Dakota.
Thune says as it stands right now, the Labor Department plan would limit young people's from working at heights more than 6 feet, near animals over six months old, near stockyards or grain bins, or from operating certain types of equipment, including some lawnmowers and tillers.
