Storm Lake man pleads not guilty to causing miscarriage

STORM LAKE, Iowa (AP) -

A Storm Lake man has pleaded not guilty to giving a woman a chemical that ended her pregnancy. Yoirlan Tome-Rojas, 31, is charged with conspiracy to commit non-consensual termination and assault. Tome-Rojas entered a written plea on Monday in Buena Vista County District Court. His trial is set for April 10. Police say Tome-Rojas allegedly gave the woman medicine that caused a miscarriage. Authorities say he obtained the medicine from someone in Florida and asked over the Internet how to use it. The alleged incidents took place from Nov. 21 to Dec. 16. Police say the woman was unaware Tome-Rojas gave her anything until she discovered emails about the medicine.
