SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa (KTIV/KUOO) -
Plans for a major revamp of a Spirit Lake, Iowa city park continue to move forward.
The city council and the city's Park and Recreation Committee recently reviewed a draft master plan for the project at Memorial Park in Spirit Lake. It includes a new shelter house and restrooms, a splash pad, extensive sidewalks, a basketball court, parking areas and a large open area in the center of the park, along with other amenities. An open design is being planned to make East Lake Okoboji visible from the park.
Planting of native trees and grass is also included.
A further-refined plan will be presented to the public at an upcoming meeting.
The city intends to make the improvements this coming summer, in conjunction with the reconstruction of a nearby street.
