NEAR IDA GROVE, Iowa (KTIV) -
In the 20 years Troy Hare has been raising cattle this is a first.
"I've had some that were a little deformed or whatever. But I've never had anything like this before," said Troy.
Wednesday he found his pregnant heifer had a brand new baby calf, and more.
"Had another leg with two hooves on the end of it," he said.
Troy went to get his wife.
"I grabbed my camera and put some pictures on Facebook, said Lynn Hare, Troy's wife.
Photo worthy for sure. The additional appendage juts out near the calf's neck. It's attached to the rib cage and vets say it can't be removed.
"He doesn't really act like it hurts at all. It's hard for him to kind of walk sometimes, because it's in his way," said Lynn.
But other than that, this baby bull looks to be doing okay.
"He's up and nurses and seems to be getting along good," said Troy.
So now, the Hare family just has to name him, which they've left to their daughter, a fan of Disney's "The Little Mermaid."
"She came up with the name Ursula, because of the extra leg," said Lynn.
Six hooves, five legs, a Siouxland calf that has a "leg up" on the herd.
The Hare family lives near Ida Grove, Iowa. They say they're considering giving the calf to a farm for deformed animals out in Wisconsin.
