SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Sioux City is one step closer to singing the blues, but in a good way.
The city, along with Spencer, has made the cut as the finalists in Iowa's Blue Zone Challenge.
The Challenge is a statewide initiative to promote living healthy, and active, lives.
From 100 applicants, Sioux City is now one of just 11 finalists.
But, the city can't afford to look back, now.
"To work together to do some vision casting about what Sioux City could become," said Dr. Paul Gausman, Sioux City Schools Superintendent.
The Blue Zone Challenge is spearheaded by Wellmark and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Their goal is to create a healthy lifestyle for all Iowans.
"Getting out and being active increases your energy level, it increases the positive outlook that you have on your own life. It increases your self empowerment sense," said Suzi.
Back in October of last year, various city officials came together to gauge Sioux City's interest. Now officials will get together again to make the city one of three winners announced in May.
"Certainly want to share with the blue zone's team how invested we are as a community," said Paul.
In the coming months the Blue Zone Project team will visit Sioux City, and the other finalists, to find the winners.
"They want to make sure the program if in place here in Sioux City is going to actually have some results. By the show of force that Sioux City has shown thus far is pretty telling that we are definitely behind it," said Carmona.
Now the city needs your help.
"Nobody's missed the boat. There's all kind of room to get active and involved and to wow the committee when they come here for our site visit," said Suzi.
"You know just to get the word out. To get the excitement out there. There's a very exciting program it's a very exciting project and we want to see it succeed," said Carmona.
"This shows us as a community that we're supportive of this effort because I think we could be the winners if we can get to that point," said Scott.
Officials from the Blue zone Team will visit Sioux City on March 12th.
