ROYAL, Iowa (KTIV) -

A former northwest Iowa school superintendent has turned himself, and now faces a charge of theft.

An investigation alleges 49-year-old Monte Montgomery misused over $47,000 in funds from the Clay Central-Everly Community school district in Royal, Iowa.

Montgomery allegedly charged the money on a credit card used for purchases that included I-pods, groceries, dog food and tires.

Montgomery resigned in November of 2010 after he admitted using the district credit card for personal use.
