SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
A company with a long history in Sioux City will announce a major move, Tuesday.
City leaders say that Sabre Industries will move to the Southbridge Business Park, expand its business, and create hundreds of new jobs.
Sabre makes communication towers and transmission systems.
Mayor Bob Scott says Sabre's move will cost $18 million, and the company could add 200 new jobs.
City officials say the expansion proves that growth can happen even in a shaky economy.
"This sends a message that we're serious about economic development, we're serious about retaining the employers we have, and we're serious about working with existing employers to make sure that they can grow in this community," said Bob Scott, Sioux City Mayor.
Scott says Sabre will be the first business to move into the new Southbridge Business Park.
City economic development director, Marty Dougherty, says that the move will set the tone for other businesses considering a move into the brand-new business park.
"By locating the first business there we think we will then be able to tell the story both locally, to other businesses that might be looking for places to expand, and also nationally. When you get the first business to locate in a business park then obviously that's going to attract attention and you can build on that," said Marty Dougherty, Sioux City Economic Development Director.
Sabre is expected to release details of its expansion Tuesday morning.
