NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV/US92) -
Two Northeast Community College students were flown to a Sioux City hospital after the truck they were in left the roadway Tuesday morning and rolled down an embankment. Norfolk Police Chief Bill Mizner says 19-year-old Braden Baseggio of O'Neill and 19-year-old Wade Oltjenbruns of Creighton were in a 2004 Dodge pickup that was eastbound in the 300 block of east Benjamin Avenue when the vehicle lost traction on what appears to be an icy patch in the roadway.
The vehicle broke through the guardrail of the south end of the flood control bridge before rolling down the 30 foot embankment, landing on it's top. Mizner says Baseggio was ejected from the vehicle while Oltjenbruns remained inside. They were both flown by LifeNet to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. Their conditions are unknown at this time. The crash closed a one mile stretch of Benjamin Avenue for four hours for investigation and clean-up.
