SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Sioux City offered some free fun on the ice Saturday. The Siouxland Youth Hockey Association invited kids to the IBP Ice Center.
Director Kathy VanRooyan says the more kids get exposed to hockey, the greater the chance they'll want to continue playing the game later in life.
Children got a chance to skate, shoot and score during their hour and a half of ice time. For many, it's a completely new experience and they're not sure what to expect.
"And then they get here and you see a lot of tears," said Kathy Van Rooyan, director for the Siouxland Hockey Youth Hockey Association. "But our coaches do a great job with getting them on the ice, and it's amazing how fast those tears go away and they turn into smiles."
Around 90 children were expected to attend the hockey clinic today, which is on pace with last year's turnout.
