SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Special Troopers Adaptive Riding School or S.T.A.R.S., has been helping those with physical, emotional and learning disabilities for almost three decades.
The number of people needing those services has grown significantly in recent years.
S.T.A.R.S. utilizes both therapeutic horses and dogs. Horseback riding has been used for kids and adults, to help them develop muscles and confidence.
According to Executive Director Stacy Pedersen, more than 30 dogs have been used in different therapeutic settings.
The organization is hosting a benefit event on March 3, to raise money for the services it provides.
The S.T.A.R.S. Winter Meltdown Benefit Auction is at 5 p.m. at the Marina Inn, South Sioux City. The cost is $75 per person or $500 for a table of 8.
The theme is a Fiesta in Siouxland. For more information or reservations call 712-239-5042 or go to http://www.scstars.org
