DUBUQUE (KWWL) -
Thursday morning, the man wanted in a fatal boating incident turned himself in to the Dubuque County Sheriff's Office.
The man is 39-year-old Kent Hoffman, of Galena, Ill.
The incident happened in the evening of Thursday, Sept. 1, near the Hawthorne Street boat ramp in Dubuque's Schmidt Harbor. According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Hoffman drove his boat over the boat of another man, 45-year-old James Sutton of Maquoketa. Sutton died from the incident. A passenger in Sutton's boat, Lori Fey, was not seriously injured.
According to Dubuque County Jail administrator Capt. Mike Muenster, Hoffman appeared in court Thursday. County prosecutors are charging him with Involuntary Manslaughter, a Class D felony, and Boating While Intoxicated.
Hoffman is being held in the Dubuque County jail on a $10,000 bond. Muenster said Hoffman's next court appearance is scheduled for March 9.
The original investigating agencies were the Iowa DNR and the Iowa State Patrol.
