NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. (KTIV) -
Some college students are helping out in Siouxland areas affected by the floods in 2011.
Eight Grinnell College students from Grinnell, Iowa are spending their spring break in Siouxland helping residents from Riv-R-Land Estates. They are cleaning up, painting, and much more.
One of the students has a personal tie to the flooding. Uzma Daraman is a freshman but she is also from Bangkok, Thailand and her family experienced flooding last year.
"Last year, around the same time as the flooded area here Bangkok was flooded and I was here in college already. So I didn't get a chance to help out back home and when I heard about this flood relief, I feel like this is my chance to help them," said Uzma Daraman, Freshman.
The students were happy to help and encourage others to donate their time and talents to the ongoing effort to clean-up the area. There is still a lot of rebuilding to finish.
