A South Dakota pilot has died in the crash of a small plane in northwest Iowa. Lyon County authorities did not immediately identify the Sioux Falls pilot who they say died Wednesday afternoon when the single-seat plane crashed and flipped while attempting to land on a grass airstrip at an airport near Larchwood. The pilot was dead at the scene. The Argus Leader newspaper reports that the aircraft is registered with the Federal Aviation Administration as a homemade experimental plane built in 1991. The FAA was beginning an investigation on Thursday.
