Sioux City mayor concerned about call center's future
Sioux City officials say they may have a backup plan. That, after Delta Airlines announced it is closing its local call center that employs 165 people on August 31st. City leaders say another company has already expressed interest in taking over Delta's lease at the downtown site. Officials are not identifying the company, but say they it is similar to a call center and they are hopeful many of the Delta employees can stay.
Warmer winter means fewer potholes to repair in Sioux City
Our mild winter means fewer potholes this year. Sioux City officials say pothole numbers are down 40% from years past. With less ice and snow to scrape, fewer plows were on the road, meaning less wear and tear on the pavement.
Gehlen students go barefoot to "walk a mile" in the less fortunate
200 Students at Gehlen Catholic School in Le Mars, Iowa shed their shoes to raise awareness about a worldwide issue. They went barefoot Tuesday as part of the national movement called "One Day Without Shoes." The purpose is to raise awareness of the millions of people around the world who can't afford the proper footwear.
Freeze warnings put Iowa winemakers on alert
A warning for winemakers in Iowa. Freezing weather this week is threatening grapes that have already started growing because of our mild winter. These winemakers near Indianola say they've never seen baby grapes this early in the season. They say a hard freeze could kill more than half their crop.
