Soldier surprises family at Bandits Game

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

The weather was perfect for a warm welcome home inside the Tyson Events Center Saturday night.

Staff Sergeant Stefan Johnson surprised his family who was at the Bandits Game as honorary coaches.

Wife Kathryn, four-year old Kaiya, and three year old Tristan had no idea Johnson was coming home Saturday.

He's served 6 tours in 13 years in the Air Force all of them in the middle east.  His latest stint was in Qatar.

He says it's been eight months since he's seen his family.

"It took about four months of planning. One of my friends got a hold of the Mayor and owner of the Bandits, and they planned it and just told me where to be," said Johnson.

"You know, you see everybody else get their moment and to have him surprise me like that, I never thought he would be able to pull that off, and get something by me like that," added his wife.

Johnson's based out of McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey.
