SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

A day after severe storms rumbled their way through parts of Siouxland, people are cleaning up.

While many were spared from major damage, some were not so lucky.

Including one family, right here in Sioux City.

Mario Harper, Roxana Angel, and three children were in this house in Sioux City's riverside neighborhood, when the storm hit Saturday night.

"We were sitting in the living room. My son was watching TV and my daughter and my niece were playing in the bedroom and I just heard the wind really pick up," said Roxana Angel, homeowner.

"I didn't hear anything but I looked over my head and I just see leaves coming down through the sunroof. Then all of a sudden, I see this big branch laying right there," said Mario Harper.

It was more than a branch.

Their neighbor's 100 foot cottonwood tree had fallen on their house.

"We didn't know what to do. This has never happened to me before ," said Angel.

Sunday, they saw the toll the tree had taken on their home.

"We're just very lucky to have came out alive because I didn't think it was that bad," said Harper.

"I haven't seen anything like this in a long time.  Not to this magnitude." said Jeff Strom.

"My heart really went out to her. I felt bad for her. She was obviously upset," said Jeff Strom, owner of Jeff's Tree Service.

Now crews work to clean up and clear out the tree.

"We're just going to get the yard straightened around tonight so she can proceed tomorrow," said Strom.

Staying at a hotel for the time being, Angel and Harper are thankful their family got out safely.

"I wouldn't say lucky, I would say more blessed," said Harper.

"Cleaning up what mother nature left behind.
