SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KTIV) -

Friday morning, ground will be broken on the military dog park being named after a fall Siouxland Navy Seal. Groundbreaking for the John Douangdara Memorial War Dog Park is set for 9 Friday morning, and construction is set to start shortly afterward.

Douangdara was a lead dog handler for Seal Team 6 and 2003 South Sioux City High School graduate. He and his combat assault dog, Bart, were killed along with 29 fellow service members when their CH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed in Afghanistan in 2011.

The dog park is part of the overall Siouxland Freedom Park project in South Sioux City honoring Siouxland veterans from every era.
