Sioux City reacts to 'Blue Zone' selections

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Sioux City mayor Bob Scott reluctantly congratulated the four selected Blue Zone cities Friday.

"Sioux City wasn't a Blue Zone winner. I'm supposed to be generous and graceful in my comments and congratulate the other four communities. I'll let Chris McGowan," said Mayor Scott.

He says the progress the city made in the program is great, even if it missed the cut. Scott says Sioux City will compete to be one of the six cities selected in the second round of the project.

To compete for round two, this fall Sioux City needs to update their original application. They will be asked to include any changes the town has made since its first submission.

Sioux City will know if they've made the cut around the first of next year.
