SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Siouxland students are honoring a fellow student at an event that aims to bring people together.
"Project Unify" is a program which partners high school and middle school students with those in special education.
Activities included anything from basketball to beach volleyball.
Izzy Koob, a West Middle School student who took part in the event in the past, was killed in a motocross accident last summer.
Today, fellow students honored her by wearing her favorite color.
"We did yellow shirts for Izzy, and we just love to honor her in everything that we do, and we just miss her," said Rylie Brun, West Middle 8th Grader.
Another one of Izzy's fellow students felt honored herself.
She felt fortunate to pick up where Izzy left off.
"I played soccer with her, and it was a tragedy, what happened. And I'm honored to be here and be his partner that Izzy had. And her parents couldn't make it today, but we're here still honoring Izzy," said Haleigh James, West Middle 8th Grader.
Over 500 students from Sioux City's public middle and high schools, along Spencer high school students, took part in today's event.
