SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Soap box races have been a tradition for children for decades.
A new track was built outside of Lewis and Clark Park back in 2003, but the number of racers has declined in recent years, so officials are hoping to bring more on board.
On Saturday and Sunday, children from all over Siouxland got the chance to go for a free ride.
"It's very fun going down the hill and racing friends from out of town," said Rodney Feller of Sioux City.
With the help of grown-ups, the kids assembled their soap box cars at the track before racing down the hill. There's even a chance for adults to try it, in one of the track's two adult cars.
