Catholic school won't let group honor gay student

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) -

A gay student in Iowa says his Catholic high school is refusing to allow a foundation that promotes gay rights activism to present his $40,000 college scholarship during an upcoming ceremony.
   Keaton Fuller, a senior at Prince of Peace Catholic School in Clinton, said Monday he's never felt so "invalidated and unaccepted" as he did when he learned the Des Moines-based Eychaner Foundation could not present his Matthew Shepard scholarship award during graduation.
   The scholarship is given to students who are openly gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender. Fuller will attend the University of Iowa.
   The Catholic Diocese of Davenport said Monday a school staff member will present the scholarship at the assembly but its policy bars any organization which promotes a position contrary to church teachings from giving school presentations.
