DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -
Iowa legislative leaders are preparing to debate key pieces of the $6.2 billion state budget as committees of House and Senate members negotiate compromises and get bills ready for floor debate.
Committees have agreed to bills dealing with administration and regulation as well as education budgets.
Lawmakers also expect to reach agreement Monday on budgets for the court system, economic development, infrastructure, and agriculture. The agreements then are voted on in the House and Senate.
Lawmakers haven't reached a deal on the $1.6 billion health and human services budget, which funds programs for public health, the elderly and mental health.
Another outstanding bill includes several unrelated budget items, including a Senate-added 4 percent increase for school districts for the school year beginning in fall 2013.
