Ames zoning change restricts new payday lenders

Posted:

The city of Ames has joined Des Moines and other Iowa cities in restricting payday lenders.
The Des Moines Register says the Ames City Council on Tuesday passed an ordinance that effectively bars new payday lenders from opening in Ames.
The ordinance says payday lenders must be more than 1,000 feet from schools, child care centers, other payday lenders, any land zoned for residential uses or any arterial street.
Payday lenders already operating in Ames may stay, but they can't expand.
