NEAR VERMILLION, SD (KTIV) -- -
Flooding damaged thousands of acres along the banks of the Missouri River.
The mess it has made puts it once again on the list of endangered rivers.
American Rivers ranks the Mighty Mo fourth on its top 10 most endangered rivers in the country.
The group cites outdated flood management and last year's disaster.
One group that focuses on preserving the river, wants congress to fund programs that would help keep future floods at a manageable level.
"There needs to be some reconnection with the river to its flood plain. Not only will these benefit fish and wildlife and increase recreational opportunities, but it's also going to attenuate a lot of that high flows and a lot of the floodwaters," said Paul Lepisto, of the Izaak Walton League of America.
