LINCOLN, Neb. (KTIV) -
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is about to survey thousands of farmers across Nebraska. The department wants to get a clear indication of acreage and supply of major commodities for 2012. The June Agricultural Survey will be conducted the first two weeks of June by the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Officials are gathering data on what crops have been planted and are in storage. They say the information is a critical component of several key national reports, including the annual Acreage report and the quarterly Grain Stocks report which will be released later in the month.
The survey is done online, by mail and by phone. Officials also randomly visit selected tracts of land and interview the farmers and ranchers on that land.
