SAFE brings awareness to military family causes

Posted:

A new organization that helps families of soldiers and other military members serving overseas held their kick-off event Saturday night.

They're called SAFE: Serving Armed Forces Everyday.

They held a tailgate for the troops outside the Tyson Events Center ahead the Bandits game, which they called the "Bandits Blowout."

More than 1,000 military families were invited. Many stayed for the game.

"It's really important. They need to know that somebody's here for them and that there's somebody to answer questions 24/7," said SAFE President Molly Gray.

"People that put this together, they remind us why we do what we do, and just that support, how much that means to us," added SPC Vernon Gebers Jr., a member of the Army National Guard.

Two fallen soldier families were also honored at the beginning of the football game.
