DES MOINES, Iowa (KTIV) -
Biodiesel production in Iowa remained strong during the first quarter of 2012 despite the expiration of the federal biodiesel tax credit. That's according to the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, which says the state's ten biodiesel plants produced 49.1-million gallons from January through March.
The executive director of the IRFA says biodiesel production in Iowa remains on pace with 2011 production.
Last year, the Iowa Legislature enacted a short-term, small tax credit to help Iowa's biodiesel community compete against states that provide large incentives. That program went into effect on January first of this year, the same day the federal biodiesel program expired.
