Severance pay for more than 650 BPI comes to an end

Severance pay for more than 650 BPI employees ends Friday.

Beef Products Incorporated stopped production at three of its four plants two months ago; including a plant in Waterloo, Iowa.

That's after the company's main product Lean Finely Textured Beef was branded a derogatory name by some national media.

BPI's says "misinformation" about LFTB caused some restaurants and stores to stop selling ground beef made with it.

The Dakota Dunes based company still produces LFTB at its South Sioux City, Nebraska plant but has reduced hours and cut another 86 jobs at the plant and corporate headquarters.

Iowa's governor, along with founder's of BPI, will be in Waterloo Friday to announce a state grant to help workers there.
