Accountant charged with stealing from elderly client

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

A Sioux City accountant will be arraigned Friday after police say she stole more than $150,000 from an elderly woman.

Teresa Lockie is charged with theft and dependent adult abuse. According to court documents, Lockie had power of attorney over 75-year-old Roberta Mitchell.

Documents say Mitchell suffered from dementia, and had no experience handling her own finances. Court documents say-- from February 2008 to February of 2010-- Lockie withdrew funds, which belonged to Mitchell, and deposited the funds into a account in Lockie's name.

Investigators say the money Lockie allegedly stole totaled more than $150,000. Police released Lockie from custody, but a judge ordered her to stay away from Mitchell.

On the advice of her attorney, Lockie told KTIV she couldn't comment on the case.
