Egg producer settles sex harassment case for $85K

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) -

A now-defunct egg producer blamed for a huge salmonella outbreak in 2010 will pay $85,000 to two former employees to settle sexual harassment allegations.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on Tuesday announced terms of its settlement with Quality Egg, LLC, of Galt, which was owned and operated by Austin "Jack" DeCoster.
The agency had sued Quality Egg in December, alleging the firm allowed a former manager at an egg-packing plant to sexually harass two female employees.
Quality Egg will pay one of the workers $60,000 and the other $25,000 under the settlement. It has ceased operating and has no employees after DeCoster and his family gave up their Iowa egg operations last year, following the salmonella outbreak that sickened thousands and led to the recall of 550 million eggs.
