NORFOLK, Neb (KTIV/US92) -
Get your swimsuits, fins and goggles ready! Norfolk, Nebraska's new water park will likely open at the end of next week. That was the word this week from Norfolk city leaders. June 15th is the date city officials hope to open the new Memorial Aquaventure water park.
There is one hurdle yet to pass though. The Nebraska Department of Health is going to be in Norfolk Wednesday for an inspection of the facility. As long as the water park passes that inspection, there will be an invite-only training for staff June 12th and 13th, then the gates will open for everyone on Friday the 15th.
Along with water slides, the park will also feature a wave pool, floatable water walk, interactive children's play area and shade structures under the hot summer sun. The park is being paid for through an occupation tax that citizens voted on in November of 2010. The park is under the umbrella of the Parks and Recreation Improvements, which also includes football and baseball facility improvements.
The city is also planning a grand opening and ribbon cutting event at the new water park on June 30th.
