Arnolds Park, IOWA (KTIV) -

Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz made stops Thursday in Arnolds Park, Sioux Center and Sioux City, to unveil a new program his office is offering to pay tribute to veterans.

Participants in the "Vote In Honor of a Veteran" program can register at the Iowa Secretary of State's web site and leave a message or written tribute.

Participants who register will receive a special lapel pin, which they are encouraged to wear during election day in November.

Even though the program is still in its infancy, Schultz says they've already been getting some tremendous feedback.

"We started it Memorial Day weekend and we keep getting posts every day and it's amazing to read them because many people talk about their family members, they talk about friends who they served with and sometimes who saved their own lives and, uh, it's really touching. It's amazing how each person puts something very unique that's personal and special to them. And I think it's just a great program to honor those people who have made it possible for all of us to be able to vote," said Schultz.

Schultz also talked about some additions to the office's web site that provides active military members assistance with items such as requesting and casting absentee ballots.

Schultz went to Sioux Center as well to speak to veterans to increase awareness and participation in the program.
