SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
It's been a topic of discussion and anticipation for years. Now, Sioux City is ready to reveal its Fire Station No. 4 to the public.
The two story building sits right off Hamilton, on Dearborn Boulevard. The old station was torn down and crews started moving in during February. Crews have been adjusting to their new digs ever since.
It has more room for firefighters to move around and store their equipment. The new station carries a $3 million price tag.
Fire officials say their needs are met for decades.
"It was such a small firehouse that the diesel fumes went all through the firehouse into the kitchen and those areas, into the sleeping areas, and like I've said, it just wasn't set up for today's fire service at all," said Tom Everett, Sioux City fire chief.
The public will get a chance to take a tour of the new station, starting on Sunday at 2 p.m.
