Harkin holds hearing on bully prevention policies

DES MOINES, Iowa -

U.S. Senator Tom Harkin is back in his home state hosting a hearing on bullying. The event in Des Moines on Friday was designed to come up with prevention policies.

Iowa gained national attention in recent months because of bullying.

A Sioux City middle school student was featured in a documentary called "Bully."

It highlighted the story of Alex Libby, a young man who was bullied on the bus and at school by some of his peers.

Two months ago, a South O'Brien teen took his own life.

Kenneth Weishuhn's family says he was bullied after he announced on Facebook that he was gay.

Senator Tom Harkin said, "Communities have got to come together if we want to put an end to bullying. And that starts with a conversation about what is going on in our schools and how policies on all levels can protect kids."
