Blood donors needed after Midwest shortage

Posted:
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Big demand has LifeServe Blood Center searching for more blood donors. A spokesperson said what's on hand is now down to less than a one-day supply of most blood types.

The donor recruitment efforts have increased significantly, but the blood supply has not rebounded as quickly as needed.

Eligible donors must be at least 16 years of age, weigh 120 pounds or more, and be in good general health.

Teens need to get their parents' consent to donate.

Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment to give blood at LifeServe Blood Center or at a local community blood drive.
