SIOUX CENTER, Iowa (AP) -
A man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexually abusing an 8-year-old Sioux Center boy with whom he once shared a bedroom.
Rogelio Zarate-Rios pleaded guilty Monday to lascivious acts with a child and sexual exploitation of a minor, and was sentenced to a 10-year prison term on each count that will be served simultaneously.
Sioux County Attorney Coleman McAllister said the case came to light after a Sioux Center woman reported to police she had discovered photographs of her young son sleeping in his underwear and being fondled on the cell phone of Zarate-Rios.
McAllister says the 50-year-old had lived with the woman's family for about four months and shared a room with the child, who confirmed to investigators that he was abused.
