STORM LAKE, Iowa (KTIV) -

Governor Terry Branstad also handed out the "Governor's Volunteer Awards" along with Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds on the BVU Campus.

The awards are handed out to people who have benefited Iowans or Iowa organizations.

The criteria include a individual or group who commits several hours of volunteer work, as well as showing leadership and hard work in their service to others.

"I have been with 'Big Brothers, Big Sisters' for 20-plus years. It gives me a chance to be a mentor to them and I learn from them and they learn from me," said Lonnie Gustafson, Sioux City award winner.

"Um, rewarding enough to see a smile on their face and see them happier than they might otherwise be," Alli Hogan, Sioux City award winner said.

The latest study has shown that volunteers in Iowa have collectively contributed $93.4 million of service.
