Fire destroys rural Emerson, NE home

NEAR EMERSON, Neb. (KTIV) -

A fire Thursday morning has destroyed a rural Emerson, Nebraska farm house. Firefighters battled heavy smoke and strong winds to put the flames out. All four of the Emerson volunteer fire department's trucks hauled water to the home for a couple of hours. Crews had to call in the Dakota City fire department for help.

The home is about 5 miles east of Emerson on Highway 35. It appeared to be a total loss.

There is no word yet on how the fire started.
